Selma 50: March 2, 2015

The African American Museum of Southern Illinois is planning a march and program on March 2, 2015, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Selma to Montgomery March. The march begins at 5:15 p.m. at the Eurma C. Hayes Center, located at 441 E. Willow Street, and ends at City Hall. The program begins at 6:00 p.m. The NAACP is hosting a voter registration event at City Hall. Candidates have been invited, and I will attend the program at City Hall.

Neighborhood Alliance Meeting: January 17, 2015

The Neighborhood Action Group is holding its annual Neighborhood Alliance Meeting on January 17, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church. The meeting begins at 9:30 a.m. and ends at noon. The Neighborhood Action Group has invited all candidates for Mayor and City Council, and there will be an informal meet and greet following the meeting. I will be at the meeting. Campaign Paperwork Filed

I filed my statement of candidacy and petition to run for city council on Monday morning at 8:00. One other Council candidate, Navreet Kang, was present at 8:00 a.m. That means the two of us will be in a lottery to determine ballot order, and I will either be the first or second name on the ballot. The City Clerk will hold the lottery at City Hall on December 2, 2014, at 4:00 p.m.
